Description
This 10-week construction trades program introduces pre-apprenticeship students to hands-on learning in the carpentry, plumbing, and electrical trades, provides industry required health and safety training and certifications, and includes a paid 8-week work placement.

This program provides graduates with a pathway to a range of opportunities in the construction trades such as:
- residential, commercial or industrial construction
- carpentry apprenticeship
- electrical apprenticeship
- plumbing apprenticeship
- refrigeration and air conditioning systems mechanic apprenticeship
Program Learning Outcomes
The graduate has reliably demonstrated the ability to:
- apply knowledge of tools and skills used in the construction industry to various carpentry and roofing projects;
- complete basic electrical, plumbing, and HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning) tasks based on theory and practical skills;
- perform workplace practices and safety procedures in accordance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act Construction Regulations;
- select and safely operate hand and power tools and equipment used in building construction;
- assist skilled tradespersons to perform construction-related tasks at jobsites.
Admission Requirements
Applicants must meet the following criteria:
- 16 years of age
- not currently registered as an apprentice
- Canadian citizen or permanent resident
Selection Process
- Applicants must attend a program information session
- Applicants must demonstrate the ability to do, or be able to acquire, the necessary reading, writing and trade related math skills
- Applicants must demonstrate a commitment to working in the construction industry
- Applicants will be interviewed
