Description
The Automotive Service Technician Pre-Apprenticeship is a 20-week program designed to equip students with both job readiness and trade-specific skills, paving the way for future job or apprenticeship opportunities in the automotive industry.
Over 12 weeks of immersive hands-on training, classroom instruction, and lab work, students develop essential technical expertise before transitioning into an 8-week paid work placement with industry professionals. Upon completion, graduates will have successfully fulfilled the Level 1 in-school requirements of the automotive technician apprenticeship.

Program Learning Outcomes
The following reflects the planned progression for full-time offerings of the program.
- select and safely operate a range of hand tools, power tools, equipment, and instruments commonly used in the automotive service industry;
- assist skilled tradespersons and perform basic automotive-related tasks under supervision in a workplace setting;
- follow safety protocols and manufacturer guidelines to hoist and lift vehicles safely and effectively;
- perform work competently and safely, in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) as well as employer and industry safety policies and procedures;
- use automotive-specific computer software to locate and interpret information required for vehicle diagnostics and repair;
- use appropriate terminology to communicate effectively with skilled tradespersons and coworkers;
- apply visual inspection and basic troubleshooting techniques to help diagnose common automotive problems;
- perform basic heating and cutting operations following industry standards and health and safety practices.
Admission Requirements
Applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD), or equivalent
- over the age of 18
- not currently registered as an apprentice in Ontario
- citizen or Permanent Resident of Canada
