Description
The Construction certificate program is targeted toward entry level positions in the construction industry. It allows a student to acquire knowledge and training in key skills such as reading engineering drawings, understanding engineering standards and practices as used in the heavy construction industry.
Career Opportunities
Graduates may enhance their eligibility for a variety of positions in a broad range of employment settings in all sectors of construction. This six course certificate equips graduates with the basic skills they need to improve their knowledge of the construction industry and equip them to develop their potential to be lead hands or front line supervisors on projects including roads, bridges, sewers, water mains and other infrastructure. Credits may be used towards a post secondary diploma.
Program Learning Outcomes
The graduate has reliably demonstrated the ability to:
- collect and appropriately apply civil engineering data from existing graphics, reports, and other documents;
- contribute to designing, planning, inspecting and constructing civil engineering projects;
- contribute to the evaluation of equipment, materials, and methods employed in the implementation and completion of civil engineering projects;
- develop and use personal and professional strategies and plans to enhance professional growth and competence;
- work in compliance with the theory and the accepted principles and practices of the civil engineering and construction industries and in accordance with applicable acts, regulations and legislations.

OSSD or equivalent with
- Grade 12 English (C or U)
- Grade 12 Mathematics (C or U)
Mature students, non-secondary school applicants (19 years or older), and home school applicants may also be considered for admission. Eligibility may be met by applicants who have taken equivalent courses, upgrading, completed their GED, and equivalency testing. Graduation Eligibility
The passing weighted average to graduate is 60%. Additionally, a student must attain a minimum of 50% or a letter grade of P (Pass) or S (Satisfactory) in each course.

Graduation Window
Students registered in part-time studies programs must maintain continuous registration in order to complete the program according to the curriculum in place at the time they were admitted. Students who do not remain continuously registered must be readmitted to the program and follow the new curriculum.
