Description
The Establishing a Contracting Small Business in Ontario stacked micro-credential program allows individuals already experienced in trades or construction to develop the skills and knowledge required to set up and operate their own enterprise. Students will develop a viable business plan that will meet industry-specific regulatory requirements and establish the foundation needed to begin their business operations. With a specific focus on doing business in Ontario, participants will build the skills and knowledge needed to comply with relevant health and safety regulations, follow requirements of the Workplace Safety & Insurance Board (WSIB), adhere to industry and labour laws, and fulfill obligations relating to mandatory employee training.
Students obtain a digital badge after completing each of the four micro-credentials and then an overall Establishing a Contracting Small Business in Ontario stacked micro-credential badge attesting to the successful completion of all four.
Program Learning Outcomes
The graduate has reliably demonstrated the ability to:
- create a viable business plan to achieve desired business goals;
- operate a construction business in compliance with government regulations to mitigate risk;
- operate a profitable and viable construction contracting small business;
- manage professional relationships and disputes to avoid litigation;
- comply with industry standards as per the Ontario Construction Act;
- implement organizational strategies to address risk and meet critical time lines.
Admission Requirements
- Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or equivalent, or mature student status
- Grade 12 English (C or U)
- Grade 12 Mathematics (C, M or U)
Graduation Requirements
Completion of all 4 micro-credential modules

Graduation Window
Students registered in part-time studies programs must maintain continuous registration in order to complete the program according to the curriculum in place at the time they were admitted. Students who do not remain continuously registered must be readmitted to the program and follow the new curriculum.
