Psychosocial Rehabilitation is an approach to service delivery that supports the recovery of people with prolonged mental illness. The program attracts people with experience in the field of mental health services. Students develop an understanding of the foundations of mental health rehabilitation, as well as the knowledge and skills related to integrating Psychosocial Rehabilitation approach within practice and programs. The program also provides knowledge and skills to frontline staff and service users of mental health agencies.
Successful completion of the program may assist to prepare students for Certification as a CPRP (Certified Psychiatric Rehabilitation Practitioner) through the United States Psychiatric Rehabilitation Association www.uspra.org
Professionals who may benefit from this certificate include volunteers and mental health professionals such as Occupational Therapy Assistants, Physiotherapist Assistants, Personal Support Workers, Social Service Workers, Developmental Service Workers, Registered Practical Nurses and Registered Nurses.
Program Learning Outcomes
The graduate has reliably demonstrated the ability to:
- describe a variety of mental illnesses and approaches to their treatment;
- outline the key concepts, competencies and principals of Psychosocial Rehabilitation;
- apply the Psychosocial Rehabilitation framework to programs;
- describe current approaches to supporting people in living, learning and working environments;
- define the intention, phases and activities of the Psychiatric Rehabilitation Process;
- describe the core knowledge, skills and attributes of a practitioner of Psychiatric Rehabilitation;
- discuss current developments and issues in Psychosocial Rehabilitation (PSR).

Mature students, non-secondary school applicants (19 years or older), and home school applicants may also be considered for admission. Eligibility may be met by applicants who have taken equivalent courses, upgrading, completed their GED, and equivalency testing. The passing weighted average to graduate is 60%. Additionally, a student must attain a minimum of 50% or a letter grade of P (Pass) or S (Satisfactory) in each course.

Students registered in part-time studies programs must maintain continuous registration in order to complete the program according to the curriculum in place at the time they were admitted. Students who do not remain continuously registered must be readmitted to the program and follow the new curriculum.
